Reports that leading UK banks are preparing to leave the UK are ‘extremely concerning’

labourpress:

Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour’s Shadow City Minister, responding to reports in the Observer that leading UK banks are preparing to leave the UK at the start of next year due to the Tories shambolic Brexit plans, said:

“This is extremely concerning news for customers and for the thousands of workers, many of whom are not on large salaries, who would be affected by these plans if they come to fruition. And that’s before we come to the potential impact this could have on our economy and the public finances

“The real problem is that Britain is being put on hold while the increasingly bitter infighting between government ministers is creating a climate of uncertainty and undermining confidence in the future of our economy.

“Labour has set our five economic red lines by which we will judge any deal, but in contrast, all the government has done is claim ‘Brexit means Brexit’ without laying out what that means.

“It’s time ministers ended their squabbling and got their act together so that those working hard in our financial services do not have to go through Christmas fearing for their jobs.”
